That sounds incredible!...MacNeice into Portuguese?! That sounds incredible! I am fascinated with poetry translation though I have very little experience of doing it myself (a tiny bit of French/English). I think regardless of how well it turns out, it's a valuable experience...

I particularly love MacNeice's 'Snow' and 'Prayer Before Birth', among others (which you've probably read), but I think 'Entirely' is a very good poem to represent him. He was an extremely versatile and varied poet but there is a streak of practicality throughout which I just love and I think is quite unique (poets aren't usually practical!) I'm glad you've had similar experiences - always good to know.Clarissa Aykroydhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08571136118573329263noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-607719101484462692.post-52942386018143735452012-04-16T21:26:39.817+01:002012-04-16T21:26:39.817+01:00Hi Clarissa! Where should I begin? I absolutely lo...Hi Clarissa! Where should I begin? I absolutely love Louis MacNeice, I was doing some research about him in college, trying to translate his poetry to Portuguese (it's just so difficult...) And I actually had a similar experience with MacNeice. I guess great poems (or art, like you said) act like some sort of tonic or pick me up, if you will.
However, I didn't know his "Entirely" - amazing, so MacNeice. I'll sign off, before the comment is huge!Paulahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16549467720857136573noreply@blogger.com
